Tears for Fears was good...not great....just good
In the early to mid 80's, I grew up as a huge fan of the band. I guess I was going in with more nostalgia than most. I had seen Symphony At Sunset in their heyday twice before, in 1985 and again in 1988 or early 1989. One thing to consider: When bands that were big 20-30 yrs ago start playing the 'casino' circuit, maybe that's a sign to stay away.
The average age of the crowd must have been close to 50 yrs old, but then again, the band is probably close to 50 as well.
Well, it's only downhill from there when you open the show with potentially your biggest hit, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." Most bands close their set or their encores with their biggest hits. I guess they got it out of the way early.
The venue was nice, it's always nice to see a show at the Oregon Zoo on a nice, sunny summer night. Not too many places better. The music was fine....sounded a bit 'tinny" in places but then again, you don't have the producers that clean up that garbled/tinny sound.
At the end of the day, it was a nice/pleasant evening. Nothing spectacular. Not the best show I have ever attended but then again, not the worst either. Just a good, nice evening. The band tried hard and seemed enthusiastic but it just didn't quite have that 'electric' vibe to the show.
